I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. Make It a Double is the second in The Last Call Series by Sawyer Bennett and is the story of Hunter’s twin brother Brody. Brody has just spent five years in jail and has some major adjustments to make, including dealing with a certain girl he wants nothing to do with. Right from the beginning, it hooked me. The story starts five years in the past and gives the reader a glimpse into the reason why Brody went to jail. After the five years are up, he comes home a different person. He’s withdrawn and has trouble with all physical contact. Brody is different than I had imagined. He is sweet, caring, but is not secure like Hunter is. He obviously has the looks but doesn't possess self-assurance. Alyssa is a strong character and I immediately liked her. She has gusts, is up front about what she wants and isn't afraid to ask for it. Given the circumstances of her privilege upbringing, she is not conceded but extremely caring. She is the perfect fit to give Brody what he needs. I liked that the story-line wasn't just about two characters coming together. It had some different elements that made the novel more interesting. On Brody’s side, the circumstances of his arrest and on Alyssa’s side, her past relationship. Like all of Bennett’s novels, she keeps on delivering those steamy sex scenes. I will definitely read Bennett’s future work. |
