I received this ARC of Before You by Amber Hart from Kensington Books through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Diego moves to the states from Cuba, escaping a past that is filled with darkness. On his first day of school, he meets Faith, the daughter of a preacher. Both hide from their pasts while trying to figure out their futures. Two diverse individuals must overcome the taboo of an interracial relationship and will have to endure hardships to stay together.
I really was optimistic for the plot of this novel. I always enjoy a story that brings two diverse and very different individuals together. I was very disappointed at how the events unfolded and how unbelievable the details were. I was confused at times and astonished at how unreal some moments felt.
I was actually more interested in the side characters, specifically Faith’s best friend Melissa and Diego’s cousin Javier. Their connection seemed real to me and I wanted to read their story instead.
The ending was shocking and disappointing. This could have been such a great story but it lacked some tighter plot concept and details.
