I received this ARC of The Duff by Kody Keplinger from Hachette Children's Books through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Bianca is the complete opposite of her two best friends. She doesn't question her friendship until Wesley Rush calls her “The Duff” of the group. When he explains that it means Designated Ugly Fat friend, Bianca gets furious and throws a drink in his face. She then begins to question her friendship and finds a way to deal with her problems with the help of Wesley. When I first read the synopsis I was expecting a different story than what I read. I was thinking this was going to be another novel of the girl who gets picked on and then has a makeover but it was so much more. I really enjoyed how Bianca’s relationship with Wesley progressed. Bianca has so much going on that she seeks a release and finds that with Wesley. They begin a relationship which starts off meaningless and purely physical but as they confide in each other and discover that they keep each other grounded, feelings quickly become involved. I really loved Wesley and his cocky attitude. Bianca is a hard character to describe because she was trying to find herself. Overall great read. I give The Duff 4 out of 5 stars. |
