This may or might not be for you. Corrupt is a new dark erotica novel by Penelope Douglas. Her other novels have been New Adult so I'm curious to see how different this is knowing that her New Adult already contains steamy scenes. I can only imagine what she'll come up with... Erika I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession. His name is Michael Crist. My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me. But I noticed him. I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away. Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore. Because he’s finally noticed me. Michael Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika. My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway. Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college. In my city. Unprotected. The opportunity is too good to be true as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out. We’ve waited. We’ve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true. ***Corrupt is stand-alone dark erotica set to be released Spring 2015. I found Bully by Penelope Douglas on Amazon when it didn't have many reviews. I know they say don't judge a book by it's cover, but for me that's what always draws my attention and will win me over to try a book out. The cover caught my eye but I wasn't expecting to like Bully as much as I did. I devoured this novel in one day. I looked for more books by Douglas but Bully was her debut novel. When I found out that Until You was coming out I checked it out only to find out that it was a companion novel to Bully. Bully is written in the POV of Tate and Until You is told in the POV of Jared. I was hesitant to read it thinking that it would be a retelling and wasn't optimistic. Well...it completely caught me off guard because Until You was even better than Bully. Now I'm waiting for Douglas's third novel and will continue to watch for her other releases.
When I first heard that they were making a movie of The Giver by Lois Lowry I was really excited. I remember reading this novel in middle school and it was the first book, assigned by a teacher, that I can remember really liking. I even listened to the audio book to see if it was the way I remember it. It's amazing what time can do to a person's perspective, It was like a whole different novel. If you haven't read the novel I definitely recommend doing so before watching the movie. The movie will be out on August 15, 2014.
Pushing The Limits Series by Katie McGarry is comprised of three books with the fourth on it's way. Pushing The Limits is another novel I found just browsing the library. For some reason I always seem to find great books unexpectedly. All the books in the series kept me glued to the pages. I read each one in two to three days. I can't wait to read Take Me On.
As much as I try to post reviews every few days, it gets tough because I like to read multiple books at once. So in between reviews I will recommend books that I’ve read in the past and with it another from the same author that will be released soon. Most of these are part of a series but can be read as a standalone. I happened to stumble upon this novel at my local library. I walked by the teen section and saw that it was displayed by staff recommendations. I read the summary and thought I’d give it a try. I'm glad that I did because right from the beginning it hooked me. I always love to read characters that are different and Fredricka (Fred) is definitely a character that doesn’t compare to others. It’s not filled with scorching sex scenes, like the usual romance novels I read, but it’s about so much more. As a minority I found myself having some sort of bond with Fred. I also liked how Fred and Ryan’s relationship progressed. This is a must read!
* If you've read or read any of the books I post, let me know what you think.
I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. Make It a Double is the second in The Last Call Series by Sawyer Bennett and is the story of Hunter’s twin brother Brody. Brody has just spent five years in jail and has some major adjustments to make, including dealing with a certain girl he wants nothing to do with. Right from the beginning, it hooked me. The story starts five years in the past and gives the reader a glimpse into the reason why Brody went to jail. After the five years are up, he comes home a different person. He’s withdrawn and has trouble with all physical contact. Brody is different than I had imagined. He is sweet, caring, but is not secure like Hunter is. He obviously has the looks but doesn't possess self-assurance. Alyssa is a strong character and I immediately liked her. She has gusts, is up front about what she wants and isn't afraid to ask for it. Given the circumstances of her privilege upbringing, she is not conceded but extremely caring. She is the perfect fit to give Brody what he needs. I liked that the story-line wasn't just about two characters coming together. It had some different elements that made the novel more interesting. On Brody’s side, the circumstances of his arrest and on Alyssa’s side, her past relationship. Like all of Bennett’s novels, she keeps on delivering those steamy sex scenes. I will definitely read Bennett’s future work. Any one who has read If I Stay by Gayle Forman, the movie trailer is out! This is an amazing and emotional read. Can't wait to see it! On the Rocks is the first book in The Last Call Series by Sawyer Bennett. It’s about a guy who quits his surfing career to go home and be supportive of his twin brother. Meanwhile the girl he rejected years back has grown up. On The Rocks starts off, 5 years in the past with Gabby Ward making it clear that she sees Hunter Markham as more than just her best friend’s brother. She gets rejected because Hunter doesn't see her in any other way but his little sister’s friend. Flash forward to five years later, Hunter quits surfing and returns home to be supportive of his twin brother, Brody, who just came out of prison. Hunter is now noticing Gabby and their underlying chemistry. When they come into a work agreement, they spend most of their time near each other and it becomes impossible to resist each other. What I really like about Hunter as a character is that as soon as he admitted that he was attracted to Gabby he didn't fight against it or pushed Gabby away. It was actually the opposite, Gabby pushed him away. Hunter reminds me of Ryan from Off Sides, another of Sawyer’s novels which I happened to stumble upon and have since been hooked with the novels that Sawyer whips out. Both male characters are strong and fight for what they want, they’re clear about their feelings and don’t shy away or get scared. Gabby on the other hand was very negative and I just wanted to shake some sense into her but she surprised me later in the novel. Like other romance novels there was a character that was in the way of their relationship, Sasha, and actually plotted to make Gabby believe that Hunter was unfaithful. Yet it was refreshing to read that it didn't follow the traditional story line of other novels. Gabby didn't believe Sasha and trusted Hunter wholeheartedly.Gabby did make an error in making a big choice for their relationship because she wanted Hunter to be happy. Hunter’s reaction made me fall in love with his character even more because he was strong and knew Gabby so well to know what she had planned. I really loved reading about Hunter and Gabby and can’t wait to find out what Brody’s story is in the second book in the series, Make It a Double. Oh... I can’t believe I almost forgot. The first sex scene in On the Rocks was just, WOW, what a great hot scene. Gabby and Hunter's chemistry was easy to see in the rest of the sex scenes as well. A definite must read.
